The event will begin at 6:00pm with networking and snacks before a free showing of Spanglish. The film directed by James L. Brooks stars Adam Sandler, Tèa Leoni, Cloris Leachman and Paz Vega as they portray a wealthy family’s struggle to communicate with their new non-English speaking housekeeper which leads them to realize their deeper struggle of communicating with each other. In the film Flor Moreno, a recent emigrant from Mexico, moves in as a fulltime housekeeper for John and Deborah Clasky along with their two kids and Deborah’s alcoholic mother at their summer home in Malibu. Flor soon finds that she is unable to communicate with the family due to the language barrier and turns to her young daughter Cristina for interpretation. As Cristina becomes closer to Deborah, a self centered and insecure housewife, Flor fears that her daughter will lose touch with her Mexican roots and working-class values.
