CETRA Celebrates International Translation Day

CETRA joins the language industry worldwide in celebrating International Translation Day on September 30.
International Translation Day is an opportunity to pay tribute to the work of language professionals. This work plays an important role in uniting nations, facilitating dialog, understanding, and developing and strengthening world peace and security.
Please join our global offices in thanking all of the talented and dedicated translators and interpreters for their hard work and dedication to the language industry. We greatly appreciate the importance of translators and interpreters on this day and throughout the year.
Each year translators, interpreters, and terminologists celebrate International Translation Day with a unifying theme. This year’s theme is Linguistic Diversity and Language Rights. According to the International Federation of Translators, the topic “is a timely and highly relevant theme for International Translation Day 2026, highlighting the essential role of translation, interpreting, and terminology in fostering inclusion, equity, and participation in an increasingly interconnected world.”
In 2017 the United Nations General Assembly declared September 30 as International Translation Day. Historically, September 30 celebrates the feast of St. Jerome, the translator of the Bible who is also considered the patron saint of translators. St. Jerome was a priest from Italy who translated most of the Bible into Latin from Greek. He also translated parts of the Hebrew Gospel into Greek. His native tongue was the Illyrian dialect and he learned Latin in school. St. Jerome was also fluent in Greek and Hebrew. He died near Bethlehem on September 30, 420.
We thank our linguists for all that you do for CETRA and your dedication to helping people globally to understand each other and the world around them.
