Translating Prohibited: Part II

A few weeks ago I wrote about intriguing signs that appear around various tourist atttractions in the Czech Republic (see Translating Prohibited). Yesterday I visited the Karlštejn Castle near Prague and there it was again. I asked the guide about the reasons and she explained that interpreterers can be disruptive during a tour, and also diminish the tour provider’s revenues, since a tour for the locals is cheaper than a tour for foreigners. I guess it means that interpreters in the Czech Republic work for free if foreigners opt for a cheaper tour in Czech and bring along someone to interpret for them?
