Training Manual Translation

When businesses move abroad or employ a certain  number of  foreign-language speakers, they will need training materials translated. Often, these can be fairly wordy and require a quick turnaround in addition to hefty desktop publishing work. CETRA is adept at handling training manual translation projects.

The Client: Large International Financial Organization

The Challenge: Translate 30 business training manuals into French for West Africa (close to half-million words). The deliverable included publication ready material and printing thus the project required DTP engineering (formatting of tables, graphs, and images) and was to be completed on budget within 6 months.

The Solution: The CETRA project manager recruited linguists with experience in business training and scheduled and divided the work amongst several different translators. The project manager was able to manage consistency through creation of a glossary accessible via the SDL Multiterm tool: it was shared among 20 translators and editors who could update the terminology in real time and collaborate online on a shared server. As the project manager tracked completed segments from the translators, editors took the next step before the project manager completed final formatting of hundreds of pages including tables, graphs and charts before sending the books to the printer. The project was successfully completed within the 6-month anticipated timeframe.

Client Benefits: Instead of relying on multiple translators and DTP providers, CETRA provided a single point of contact for the client and managed the project from inception to hard-copy publishing and delivery. The client benefitted from peace of mind knowing they would receive an accurate, congruent, and clear training manual in the target language on schedule and within budget.

Another relevant project was the translation of safety handbooks for a large-scale management consulting company. These handbooks were designed to help staff and their families mitigate hazards – man-made and natural – within their countries of relocation in the Middle East. Challenges included providing a universally understood Arabic translation, maintaining formatting of tables/charts with a right-to-left written language, and communicating accurate and clear information to the client in order to ensure for correct printing of the handbook.
